ATV club fishing tournament generates funds for Arena Fire and EMS
The Wildlife Forever ATV Club held the area's first annual Kid's Ice Fishing to raise funds for the Arena Fire Department/EMS.
The event was hosted by Trader's Bar and Grill in Helena and the fishing spot was at Trader's Pond with grownup fishing across the road on Goofy's Slough.
Festivities began Saturday morning, at 9 a.m. with several kids, parents in tow, already on the ice at 8:45 a.m. There was no entry fee as the kids were each covered by a sponsor. Competition weigh-in was held at 3 p.m.
Those who wished to take a chance at the raffle were surprised to have double the chance at winning with a 50/50 raffle and a Golden-Boy Gun raffle. Raffle drawings were completed at 4 p.m.
Jim Wenzler, Treasurer of the ATV Club said, "It is always great to see kids having fun and spending quality time with family."
The Trader's banquet hall was packed with shop sellers advertising their wares right alongside the donated pie sale. Pies were auctioned off silently, with an assortment of choices from Apple Crisp to Pecan, for those hungry fishers. There were many, many pies donated to the cause.
"I was so happy to see so many at the Fisheree and the parking lot packed," said Diane Halverson, Secretary of the ATV Club. "The weather really cooperated."
Something tastier than normal at this year's fisheree was the wild-game feed, where there was beef barbecue, spicy bear meat and well-made tender venison along with your choice of chips, potato salad and drinks, compliments from those who donated the well-made meals and Trader's Bar.
Dalton Shauf, Club President, said, "The event went so well. As I went around talking to everybody I knew, they said everyone was having a good time."...
