Prevention Committee to hold community events

The Iowa County Substance Misuse Prevention Committee is planning for three events to bring the community together.
Members of the Committee include: Mike Peterson, Jail Administrator; Melissa Peterson, Treatment Court Coordinator; Jesse Brogley, AODA Counselor at Unified Community Services; Cara Biddick, Nurse Case Manager at Unified Community Services; Sara Mahoney, Licensed Prevention Specialist at Unified Community Services; Geana Shemack, Health Department; Bruce Paull, former County Board Supervisor; Sheryl Brokopp, SWCAP; Ken Kirby, Peer Support Specialist; Ryan Bohnsack, Prinicipal of Dodgeville School District.
The Committee, created in 2019, partnered with film maker Alex Carey to create the local documentary about substance addiction, The Road to Recovery, which was released in May 2021.
As of this week, the film has over 31,000 views on YouTube.
On Wednesday, the Committee held a meeting to plan and coordinate community events.
The Committee discussed potential dates and details of the events.
On Thursday, August 25 at 5:30 p.m., the Committee will hold a "Recovery Community Cookout" at Centennial Park.
The goal of the event is to bring people in recovery together to have fun and make connections.
On Sunday, September 18, the Committee invites the community to attend a public showing of The Road to Recovery in the Dodgeville High School auditorium at 4:00 p.m.
On Sunday, October 2, the Committee will hold a "family friendly" event at Governor Dodge State Park; all are invited to attend.
The Committee scheduled Saturday, Oct. 8 as a rain date.
