Southwest Health has seen an increase in patients admitted to its hospital in Platteville, Chief Operating Officer Steve McCarthy said. The unvaccinated comprise the largest number of COVID-19 admissions.
"Consistent with what can be found on the Wisconsin Hospital Association website, Southwest Health has been seeing about a 50% increase in patients (from an average inpatient census of 10 to now around 15) needing to be admitted to the hospital and strong correlation with those COVID admissions being for patients who are not vaccinated. We have recently added a second physician to help support the inpatient hospital care needs. We have also been seeing significant increase in visits to our Emergency Room and in our Primary Care Clinics located in Platteville and Cuba City.
