CHC - Opponents Seek
Temporary Construction Injunction

In their efforts to prevent environmental damage in Wisconsin, Driftless Area Land Conservancy and its collaborating environmental groups - the National Wildlife Refuge Association, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation and Defenders of Wildlife - along with both Iowa and Danes Counties and others were granted hearings in both state and federal court last week.
Developers of the Cardinal-Hickory Creek (CHC) transmission line project have begun construction on the Wisconsin portion of the high-voltage line route this past week. Clear cutting of trees had already occurred on the Iowa side of the route up to the border of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, and now the companies have started clearing the right-of-way for their proposed route up to the border of the Refuge on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River. The apparent goal is to get as much of the line built as possible before four separate lawsuits can be decided in court....
