public hearing Tuesday for board representation
Iowa County residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed redistricting plan at 6:30 p.m. at a public hearing.
The hearing will be held September 21 prior to the 7 p.m. meeting of the Iowa County Board. The board meets at the community room at the Health and Human Services building.
Redistricting is required every 10 years and is based on the census figures. According to the figures released August 16.
Because of COVID issues the time frame for redistricting had to be compressed.
After the figures were released a non-partisan redistricting was appointed and met September 2. They reviewed where the 459 people who have moved into the county in the past decade are located. Their goal was to consider 3% to 5% variations in reforming the districts. After discussion the committee voted to accept the second option proposed and present it at the hearing September 21. They determined a second meeting was not needed. Decisions made at the September 21 public hearing are tentative.
A map of the redistricting proposals is available at the Iowa County Clerk's office.
After the hearing, municipalities have until November 2 to submit ward plans to the Iowa County Board. The board will then hold a final public hearing November 9 and approve the redistricting plan.
