City of Dodgeville discusses possible changes coming forward
While it was a brief six minute Dodgeville Council meeting, Dodgeville City Clerk Treasurer Lauree Aurlik informed council members that there might be some ideas coming forward.
Aurlik attended a Clerk and Treasurers Institute that is held annually at UW-Green Bay. One of the ideas brought back to council included an ordinance change for clerks handling operators licenses. A couple years ago, a state statute changed that allows city clerks to approve operators licenses. Operators' license applications must still go through a background check by the municipality's police department.
"About 80% of clerks are handling it this way," Aurlik said.
Dodgeville Mayor Todd Novak said that he will be having a conversation with City Attorney Eileen Brownlee to further discuss this possibility. Novak and Aurlik also said that the City is looking to possibly add a "Consent Agenda" component to future council agendas.
A consent agenda is a component of a meeting agenda that enables any board or council to group routine items and resolutions under one umbrella.
By implementing consent agendas, issues under this line item do not need any discussion before a vote. The only exception to this, is a board member can request a removal of a line item under consent agenda to be moved in the regular portion of a meeting.
Otherwise, the entire portion of the consent agenda is voted on at once without any additional explanations or comments.
"Mineral Point and Platteville are nearby cities that use consent agenda meetings in their meetings," Aurlik said. "It does help in saving time."
In other council business, council members approved to renew a two year operator for Brian Whitehouse and Marvel Roen (Effective July 20, 2021- June, 30 2023). Council members granted the Dodgeville Fire Department permission to serve at the upcoming "Banding Together for Agrace" event.
Council members moved to go into closed session to discuss City Owned Property and a Developer's Agreement.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting is on the calendar for Tuesday August 3 at 5:30 p.m. in person.
