Mineral Point Miller Road case

At this time, Laurie and Alexis Barry will stand trial for their alleged connection to the death of a 13 year old girl that was in their care.
The mother and daughter pair, Laurie, 52, and Alexis Barry, 30, have been charged with party to first-degree reckless homicide when they were suspected to be involved with the death of 13 year Selah Kaden.
Kaden passed on May 31, 2018 while the Barrys were responsible for her care. Kaden's parents, who live in North Carolina, sent her to live in Mineral Point with the Barrys when another family member needed extensive care.
Charges were officially filed with Iowa County a year later.
The Barrys made a teleconference appearance on Wednesday July 7 at Iowa County Court, with Iowa County Judge Margaret Kohler presiding. Laurie Barry was represented by defense attorney Jessa Nicholson, where Alexis Barry was represented by defense attorney Christopher Van Wagner. Representing the State of Wisconsin was Iowa County District Attorney Matt Allen.
At Wednesday's hearing, Kohler heard from both defense attorneys as well as Iowa County District Attorney Allen. At this time the trial is still on schedule, which takes place starting April 28, 2022 to May 13, 2022. Any settlement offers must be completed by March 8, 2022. Prior to that, motions must be filed by January 13, 2022. A motion hearing is scheduled for February 25, 2022. Witness lists and reports must be submitted by October 4, 2021, and jury instructions must be submitted by March 16, 2022. The final pre-trial is scheduled for March 25, 2022 at 9:15 a.m.. A teleconference is scheduled for November 1 at 8:30 a.m.
