Dodgeville City Council welcomes Lauree Aulik as new City Clerk Treasurer
|The City of Dodgeville council members met the person who will succeed Lisa Riley as the new City Clerk Treasurer.|
The Dodgeville City Council approved the appointment of Lauree Aulik as the new clerk/treasurer for the city last month. Aulik was appointed by Mayor Todd Novak and confirmed unanimously by the city council.
Riley is stepping down to take the clerk/treasurer position in the Village of Cobb. Riley was officially done working full-time with the city on April 9, but will be available to assist Aulik through the months of April and May. Aulik officially started her position with the city on April 5.
Council members also gave their farewell to longtime council member Mike Borne, who represented District Four in Wards 7, 8, and 9. He was appointed by Mayor James McCaulley in February 2002, during a special meeting.
Taking his position after the spring election is Julie Johnson Solberg. She took the oath of office this past week.
In other election news, Riley informed council members that there were 616 voters, which is about 21% of the city's registered voters. There were 467 absentee ballots sent, with 315 ballots returned.
Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce Director Beth Mikrut Gilles was in attendance to discuss the possibility of a street use permit for the Town Square. In year's past, the event took place during the second week of July in 2019, however was cancelled due to the pandemic. The Chamber is looking to bring back the event throughout the summer from May 28 through September 7. The location is proposed for the closure of Merrimac Street from Iowa to North. Council members tabled action for more discussion at the next meeting for closing Merrimac Street (from Iowa to Union), contingent upon more research with Red Room, Blabaum's, Bob's, and questions of City Attorney Eileen Brownlee regarding liability questions and concerns.
