Barneveld school board works through COVID concerns
The Barneveld School Board and adminstration are preparing for the worst as the COVID pandemic surges throughout the county and the state.
District Administrator Joe Price asked the board to support what he feels is appropriate to keep staff and students safe. The information he is using to determine the district's path comes from the Iowa County Health Department and from state sources.
"The Health Department is recommending moving to virtual and delaying the start of contact sports until at least the end of November," Price added. "Boys and girls basketball are contact sports and are scheduled to start practice over the next two weeks."
Price presented point by point what he used to make the decision to go virtual into December. His power point included county infection information that showed totals on November 6 at 685, November 9 at 758 and a burst over the weekend that sent the total to 848 by the time the board met. Cases are projected to reach 1000 in the next two weeks.
Price also updated the board on staff and students testing positive and those in contact with those exposed.
