Barneveld district has new tax levy
The Barneveld School Board approved an adjusted levy at a special meeting Wednesday.
The levy is $244,728 higher than what was approved at the recent annual meeting. The adjustment will still keep the levy flat and the mill rate lower than last year.
The levy amount approved was $2,951,479 which carries a mill rate of 11.51. Homes in Barneveld are valued at $233,327 and higher.
The amount approved at the annual meeting was $2,706,751 and had a mill rate of 11.29. Last year's mill rate was 11.88.
District Administrator Joe Price said the new levy includes $300,000 that will be used as a buy down for existing debt.
Price told the board it will be a year before the effects of COVID-19 are known. He said by keeping the levy flat the district remains in good financial position. He added that the district should be in good shape for anticipated future growth.
