Fall athletes will have their seasons the Iowa-Grant School Board decided at a special meeting Monday.
Cross Country practice has already started when the squad kicked off their season August 24. Football and Volleyball will start on September 7.
Iowa-Grant was scheduled to play football in the newly configured Six Rivers Conference this year but some of the teams have opted to hold their season in the spring. Tentatively the Panthers will face Pec/Argyle, Potosi, River Ridge from the conference to play this fall with Athletic Director Casey Clausius seeking additional game possibly with schools from the Ridge and Valley Conference
The Panther coaching staff is hoping for seven games this season and stated they hope the season comes off as they don't want to see football competing with spring sports
For the volleyball team, the Panthers are members of the SWAL Conference. There are four schools from the SWAL opting for a fall season with the likely members Boscobel, Mineral Point, and Darlington along with the Panthers. Clausius told the board the neighboring SWC also has four teams playing so he is looking at combining with them for a season.
For Cross Country the squad is looking at 12 meets this year which is similar to past seasons but there will be less competition at each of the events in an effort to reduce potential exposure.
If the COVID-19 pandemic causes the school to go virtual the board gave the go ahead to allow the administration to determine if sports should continue or not.
After closed session the board issued contracts to the district's two athletic directors, Clausius at the high school and Melissa Martinez for the middle school.
In other business the board accepted the resignation of longtime cook Bernice Dorota. Her resignation was accepted with gratitude for Bernice's 17 years of service. Her resignation will be effective September 15.
The Board agreed to sign a quit claim deed for a parcel of land in the Village of Montfort from the School District to the Village. Board members, the District's lawyer along with the Village of Montfort agree the parcel was simply missed back in 1992 when a bunch of parcels were deeded to the Village of Montfort. The Parcel No. is 151-00136-0000.
