Getting back to school plans move forward at Barneveld

Barneveld School District Superintendent Joe Price feels the plan to reopen school this fall hinges on one important thing right now.
"We need the help of the entire community for this to happen," Price told the school board Wednesday. "We need people to mask up, practice social distancing and wash their hands often, disinfect and stay home when sick. We need to have everyone follow the CDC guidelines of battling the pandemic. We only have a couple more weeks to go and we can't give up now."
Price added that there have been a trio of meetings with the district's planning group and they are continuing to work on the relaunch plan.
"We created our own reopening check list and so far have been able to check nine of the 10 boxes," Price said. "We are working on a final transition plan for reopening."
Principal Erin Eslinger informed the board about the numbers associated with reopening, adding that she is getting closer to the final counts. She also said bus routes are being developed based on the number who can ride with social distancing.
Price said he has been getting comments on the relaunch plan which have been generally positive.
The reopening plan offers both in-person and virtual. The full plan is available on the school district website.
In other business the board filled two teaching vacancies by approving contracts for Lindsey Bollig and Jamie Sage. Bollig will teach fourth grade and Sage will teach kindergarten.
A previous vacancy in third grade was filled by in-house movement.
The board also received a request for an additional student wanting to be part of the ECCP program and was informed by Eslinger all criteria was met. The request was approved.
The board received a retirement notice that Renee Meyer was ending her many years of service in the Barneveld School District. Meyer was most recently involved as a health aide. She will be honored for her service at the September board meeting.
The board discussed the annual meeting agenda. Price said after review he presented some tweaks. After discussion the agenda was approved.
