Uplands Cheese launches new gift box to support local food bank

Uplands Cheese, the acclaimed Dodgeville, WI, cheese company, has released a new gift box as part of a national effort to support small scale, American cheesemakers. The Victory Cheese Box includes Uplands Cheese's own Pleasant Ridge Reserve, as well as a 10-Year Cheddar from Hook's Cheese in Mineral Point and Red Rock from Roelli's Cheese in Shullsburg. Uplands is donating 10% of all the gift box sales to the food pantry at Dodgeville's Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program (SWCAP).
"After our restaurant sales disappeared we needed to find new ways to sell our cheese," says Andy Hatch, Uplands Cheese owner and cheesemaker, "and offering curbside pickup and shipping to people's houses seems to fit the moment. As more customers are buying directly from our farm we wanted to share that outlet with some neighboring cheesemakers, and there aren't any better people or cheesemakers around than the Hooks and Roellis."
Uplands Cheese has supported the Southwest Wisconsin Community Action Program in the past and saw another opportunity to help through its gift boxes. Hatch explains that "it's always been important to us that our business harvests money from urban centers around the country and spreads it around Iowa County. The pandemic has obviously put a lot of families here under extra stress. We want to make sure SWCAP has the resources to help those who need it."
Victory Cheese Boxes can be ordered at or by emailing Uplands Cheese at The boxes can be picked up curbside at Uplands Cheese and can also be sent anywhere in the country with free shipping.
Hatch and co-owner Scott Mericka milk their cows on a seasonal, pasture-based farm in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, where they produce two cheeses: Pleasant Ridge Reserve and Rush Creek Reserve. Pleasant Ridge Reserve is the most awarded cheese in the United States, having won both the US Cheese Championship and, the American Cheese Society's Best of Show, an unprecedented three times. Rush Creek Reserve is produced in the fall and is only available in November and December.
