Saturday pursuit leads to arrest of Madison man
A young man is behind Iowa County bars after a pursuit landed in his arrest on Saturday evening.
On Saturday May 23 at 16:36 hours, Iowa County dispatch received information from Lafayette County dispatch, of a 2007 White Nissan Altima 4DR travelling slow on South Highway 151, according to a press release from the Iowa County Sheriff's Office.
Mineral Point Police observed the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop before the vehicle failed to stop.
The vehicle continued northbound at low speeds. The Iowa County Sheriff's Office and the Ridgeway Marshal's Office also joined in the pursuit.
Although stop sticks were deployed, the vehicle evaded them and crossed over into the opposite lanes of Highway 18/151. The vehicle continued travelling northbound in the southbound lanes against traffic.
Approximately a quarter mile east of County Road YZ, a pursuit intervention technique was conducted thus stopping the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Daeshawn Webster, 19, of Madison.
Webster was taken into custody and was charged with operating while under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, driving on the wrong side of a divided highway, and operating without a valid driver's license.
No injuries were reported, and a portion of Highway 18/151 was restricted to one lane of travel for 1 1/2 hours while the investigation continued.
Wisconsin State Patrol conducted the investigation of the scene east of Highway YZ.
Randy's Towing assisted with removing the vehicle.
