New Barneveld administrator
is continuing his passion
Financial success isn't everything.
Just ask new Barneveld School District Administrator Joe Price.
Price, who will officially start his new duties July 1, is a non-traditional educator which basically means it took him a while to realize his true calling. He started his professional career in mortgage banking and was turning a profit.
But it just was not enough.
Realizing that money isn't everything and certainly does not buy happiness, Price went back to school and got his degree in education.
That started his journey to administration which has spanned from Twin Lakes (WI) to Barneveld. And Price admits he is happy to be making the move.
"I am looking forward to joining the Barneveld School District and serving as its next superintendent," said Price last week. "It is a great school with a supportive community. I love working in a small school setting and I pride myself on knowing every student by name, strength and need."
Price also said he plans to relocate his family to Barneveld and become a contributing member of the community.
On making the change from the world of finance to the world of education price said it was a great choice.
"I absolutely love working with students and families, community members and like minded professionals who are committed to the success of others," Price said.
Price began his journey in administration as an assistant principal at Cary Junior High. His next assignment was at Lakewood School in Twin Lakes as principal. Three years later he found himself as the superintendent of the entire district.
Price found his financial background helpful in improving the district's fiscal picture and he was instrumental in passing a referendum to enhance student growth and family engagement.
"It was an incredible experience," he said. He adds it was made possible through a culture centered around shared ownership and decision making.
Price is currently near completion of his Doctoral degree through Aurora University and he plans to defend his dissertation sometime next fall, depending on the COVID-19 situation. His primary topic is on Resilience Theory and is based on mental health and social-emotional development.
When he is not at work Price enjoys the outdoors. He lists his interests as golf, hunting and fishing with his children.
"I like to spend as much time outdoors as possible," Price said. He owns some property in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
"We visit there as often as possible," he said. "One of my favorite places to visit is Bond Falls near Watersmeet, MI."
The Barneveld School Board finalized Price's contract at its April 15 meeting. They issued the following statement:
"The Barneveld School Board is excited to welcome Joe Price as the next district administrator. We believe Mr. Price's experience in leading small districts, strong background in finance, passion for culture and communication, reputation as a progressive leader, commitment to community, and students-first approach will bring value and growth to our students and staff.
Mr. Price earned his Superintendent Certification from Cardinal Stritch University-Milwaukee and his Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership from National Louis University in Elgin, IL.
We look forward to introducing Mr. Price to the students, staff and community."
