Barneveld approves open enrollment numbers for next school year
|At Wednesday night's Barneveld School Board, Principal Erin Eslinger pointed out that they are looking at career development requirements for Barneveld students. Eslinger said in other districts have included personal finances as part of a student's career development class requirements and would like to adopt the same policy, thus being an approved recommendation at meeting.|
Eslinger also stated that the middle school raised over $3,000 at the Holiday Carnival.
Superintendent Brett Stousland discussed highlights for the tactical plan. He stated that they are still continuing with the peer observations, the instructional coaching, and ACT test preparations for juniors. He also pointed out that construction is mostly complete and that outside painting is expected to take place sometime between the spring and summer.
Derek Schmitz asked if there was an expense list of "extras" that have been done in the overall construction, such as the windows. Stousland said that it was included within the original expenses.
"I just want to make sure that we have the things we need set, before we start with the extra things," Schmitz said. "It's needs versus wants."
Stousland responded by saying that there were extras that needed to be addressed. Those extras include an alley that has water problems, the roof above the gym, and the north wall that have leaks.
Board member Tad Owens told Schmitz that they have met twice per month to discuss the construction.
"It was a balancing act throughout the entire thing," Owens said. "Did we get exactly what we want, no we didn't. But are we satisfied? Yes."
Board members also reviewed the budget, and went over open enrollment numbers. In a report given to board members, there are no open special education spots available for next school as they are at maximum for caseloads. There are 21 regular education spots, with spots unavailable for 7th, 9th and 12th grade. Board members approved the open enrollment information.
