To reflect the season of giving, Dodgeville Dental once again provided patients with free dental services on #GivingBackTuesday which was the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
This is Dodgeville Dental's second year of providing free services which included dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns and more. These services were offered basic services on a first come first serve basis to patients without dental insurance, with forward health or low income.
"We understand that there is there's a need for dental care and there's a limit to care for patients, especially patients who have forward health and low income," Dodgeville Dental officer manager Kayla Schult said.
Dodgeville Dental has between one to five phone calls everyday from patients that have either forward health or not dental insurance. Often times they are referred to Community Connections Free Clinic, who in turn are often booked out quite a few months.
Dr. Kym Fritz completed her undergraduate studies at Marquette University in 2011, majoring in Biomedical Sciences and Spanish for the Health Professions. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Iowa in 2015. She bought the practice a couple years ago.
Knowing that there's a limited amount of care out there. Dr. Kym Fritz and the team made the decision to give back.
It took a year of planning for the event. It started with blocking off that day in advance to make it possible for clients to come in. They started with clients that needed more than just a cleaning and worked from there.
Dodgeville Dental had 40 appointments on that day, and donated over $16,000 worth of care; earning a higher amount from last year. They will continue to reach higher each year.
The practice has received a lot of positive feedback about the service. It was even reported that a patient walked out of their appointment with tears of joy and thanked staff members with a warm embrace.
"It was nice that we were able to do that," Schult said.
"I just like being able to give back to this community because the town of Dodgeville has been so great to me," Dodgeville Dental owner Dr. Kym Fritz said. "I was apprehensive about moving to a small town, but since 2015 everyone has welcomed me with open arms and have been very appreciative of the dental services that I have been able to provide."
