Iowa County sees seventh COVID-19 case

The Iowa County Health Department said Tuesday that a seventh lab confirmed case of COVID 19 has been identified in an Iowa County resident.
This recent case is an individual between the ages of 45 and 65, and is currently isolated. Iowa County Health Department has contact with all confirmed cases and reaches out to those who may have had close contact to each confirmed case. The Health Department assists in actively monitoring their health while they are under quarantine.
"We expect to see positive case numbers increase as testing capacity is expected to increase locally," said Iowa County Health Department head Debbie Siegenthaler. "Remember however, lab confirmed cases only tell part of the story. While positive cases help to represent the disease spread in a community, they do not account for all possible cases. Community spread is considered statewide in Wisconsin, meaning any public interactions put you at greater risk of exposure and getting sick. It is critical that residents understand that if you leave your home you should assume you will come in contact with COVID 19. "
There is no effective medicine to treat COVID-19 and no vaccine.
"We have to work together through interventions like physical distancing and hand hygiene to slow the spread," Siegenthaler added. "We know this is challenging. We know this is disruptive. Badger Bounce Back is Wisconsin's plan to decrease COVID 19 cases and deaths and also increase capacity in our health care system so that a phased reopening of businesses happens. We all want people to get back to work. We need to stick together and with the physical distancing a little longer and dial back restrictions slowly. "
