Keeping Veterans Service Officer full time favored by Iowa County board
A group of area veterans appeared before the Iowa County Board Tuesday with concerns about proposed cutbacks in the Iowa County Veterans Service office.
The office has a staff of one....Veterans Service Officer Jeffrey Lindeman, and he is the only one with the certification needed to handle veterans affairs.
Lindeman was one of several who spoke. He detailed the duties performed through his office and pointed out that $5,715,000 came into the county veterans benefits last year.
“Add in medical and you are over $12 million,” he said. He added that there are 1488 veterans in Iowa County and he is the only certified specialist.
Others who spoke were Lee Pollock, a veteran from Barneveld who runs a very active post and representatives from veterans organizations from surrounding counties. They all asked for the position to remain full time and pointed out that there are more veterans needing services as there is a movement underway to identify them...
