Be careful at YZ/18/151

Dear Editor,

I wasn’t sure if I’d be alive to write this.

Earlier this week, I was driving on 18/151 (from Mt. Horeb) and turned into the de-escalating lane coming up on the YZ turnoff.

There was a bright blue semi behind me that was traveling at a reasonable speed.

As I started my turn at the point where YZ intersects 18/151, I could see a white car pulling out. It continued on.

My heart was in my throat as I envisioned the trailer swinging around and most likely “catching” me as the driver attempted to avoid hitting the white car.

But thankfully, all I heard was the blare of the semi’s horn.

Please, please be CERTAIN that you have a COMPLETELY UNOBSTRUCTED view before you pull out. It could mean your life/lives, as well as that of others in the immediate area (in this case, mine).

I was told recently that while waiting to SAFELY cross that intersection, vehicles in line were honking for the lead car to get going. Guess what? The lead car is responsible for their own safety. You’ll get your turn. Be patient!
