Sprinkel, Stephen H.



MONTFORT – Stephen H. Sprinkel, age 87, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Southwest Health in Platteville, WI surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 22, 1936; the son of Charles and Helen (Miller) Sprinkel. Steve married the love of his life, Marietta DeMassi on October 6, 1956, in Rock Falls, IL. They would have celebrated 68 years together this fall.

 Steve and Marietta moved their family from Illinois to Wisconsin in 1968. In Montfort they owned and operated Sprinks Tap, created lifelong friendships, and were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church.  Steve traveled all over southwest Wisconsin as a liquor salesman forming relationships with many bar owners and liquor stores. Steve was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Wisconsin Badgers; but was most proud to watch his children and grandchildren excel at a collegiate level in various sports.  He coached little league and was a member of the Iowa-Grant football chain gang for 38 years, as well as a member of the Iowa-Grant Booster Club. He never missed an opportunity to attend his children and grandchildren’s various events. Steve and Marietta enjoyed traveling. Some of their favorite trips included Napa Valley, Florida, Cabo, and Italy.  Always by his side, was a four-legged friend, having many dog companions through the years.  He enjoyed spending time fishing, doing yard work, golfing, and cocktail hour with neighbors.  

Steve is survived by his wife, Marietta; seven children: Steve (Connie) Sprinkel, Greg (Vicki) Sprinkel, Sheila (Jim) Campbell, Laura Sprinkel, Michael (Jean) Sprinkel, Patrick Sprinkel (Rob McGuire), and Sarah (Rob) Hennessey; 18 grandchildren: Stacy (Troy) Stair, Steven Kroener, Cory Sprinkel, Danielle Hugill, Matthew (Crystal) Campbell, Jennie (Todd) Pete, Isaac (Carey) Campbell, Andrew (Taylor) Campbell, Megan (Jameson) Pustina, Kelsey (Cody Zoha) Nechvatal, Tony Nechvatal, Alex Nechvatal, Sydney (Jordan) Thompson, Maddy Sprinkel, Weston Sprinkel, and Drew, Myah, and Anna Hennessey; 19 great-grandchildren: Kyle and Makenna Stair, Savannah Kroener, Nevaeh Abing, Samantha Sorenson, Christian, Jackson, and Bethanni Campbell, Hayden and Dawson Pete, Coy, Wynn, and Ayra Campbell, Bentlie and Harlie Campbell, Maylee Butteris, Marietta Pustina, and Norah Thompson; sister, Sue (Steve) Harrington; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Biscuit. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Sprinkel. 

 A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort and from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church. The Soman-Larson Funeral home in Montfort is assisting the family.
