Stephens, John “Jack” Jeffrey



John “Jack” Jeffrey Stephens, 75 of Spring Green, WI peacefully went to his golden ballpark and golf course in the sky on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son that brought nothing but goodwill and lightheartedness to everyone he met.  Jack was full of humor and loved a good prank.  

He was born on February 23, 1949 in Dodgeville, WI the son of Kenneth and Ramona (Baryenbruch) Stephens. Jack grew up on a farm, but soon after moved into Dodgeville.  Known as George to his brothers and sister, he was the second child of seven children. Sports was a large part of Jack’s family.  Jack loved baseball, basketball, football. Later in life, golf became his real passion. He loved and lived golf. 

After high school Jack studied radio broadcasting at Brown Institute in Minneapolis. Went to work as a DJ at WDMP Dodgeville.  Served his country in the Army Reserves.  Afterwards Jack was employed by General Telephone/GTE/Verizon company for 33 plus years.  President of the Lions Club, he loved being involved in community activities and being a “notable presence” at many sports events. Jack met his first wife Karen and started a family.   Shannan was the first son, followed by Eric and Christopher.  Jack loved teaching and playing various sports with his children.  Later in life he met his second wife Julie, and gained two daughters, Tiffany and Kelly.

Preceded in death by his parents Ken and Monie Stephens.  He is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Julie; his sons, Shannan (Nikki), Eric, Christopher (Jamie); daughters, Tiffany (Steve), Kelly (Brad); grandchildren, Alicyn, Madison, Will, Bodhi, Summer, Arya, Seneca, Derek, Daniela, Savannah; brothers, Dick (Deb), Tom (Julie), Jim (Deb), Den, Tim; sister, Julie (Bobby); and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green, WI.

Jack’s family would like to thank the ICU nurses at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital for their exceptional and compassionate care, Tanya, Jackalynn, and Courtney.
