Cultivated meat?

Dear Editor,

Cultivated meat has faced some opposition recently. For those who don't know, cultivated meat is grown from animal cells, without slaughter. Strangely, opponents have argued both the new protein isn't technologically feasible and it should be banned. You would think, if these folks truly believed the former, the latter shouldn't be necessary.

The truth is cultivated meat faces a number of hurdles before it can be mass produced, but these can be overcome with increased public funding for research into the field. Given the potential animal-welfare, public-health, and environmental benefits of cellular agriculture, forward-thinking legislators should help nurture this nascent industry. It's the right thing to do.
