Iowa-Grant PE teacher resigns, will face felony charge

The Iowa-Grant School Board accepted the resignation of a PE teacher accused of child abuse-recklessly causing harm.

After a closed session December 19, the board accepted the resignation of Kirby Grutz, 30, Mineral Point.  Grutz is accused of causing harm to students during one of the PE sessions he was conducting at the Iowa-Grant EMS. One student reported a large  scratch after Grutz allegedly grabbed him and another alleged he was swung by both arms and dropped by Grutz.  

Following investigation by Iowa-Grant adminstration, Grutz was placed on administrative leave.

Grutz then resigned at the special meeting.

Grutz is scheduled to appear in Iowa-County Court for an initial appearance at 9 a.m. January 16.  The charge is a Class I felony.
