Aric Way sentenced to life in prison, Philip Schmidt-Way's sentencing later

By John Dalton

Both Aric Way and his son Philip Schmidt-Way appeared in Iowa County Court Tuesday afternoon in separate sentencing hearings.  Aric Way was sentenced by Judge Craig Day to life in prison without eligibility for extended supervision in the Wisconsin State Prison System.  Way was given credit for 460 days served.

State Attorney Nathaniel Adamson argued life with no parole because of the severity of the offense adding that he plotted too long to kill his mother trying to make it look like an accident.  Aric Way’s attorney Adrian Longacre asked the judge to have mercy on Way because of his deteriorating health with Multiple Sclerosis.
