Pope, Scott G.

Scott G. Pope, age 77, of Arena was called home, after a brief illness at UW Hospital in Madison, on Friday, April 5, 2024, the two-year anniversary of his father's death. He was born March 23, 1947, to the late Dale and Lillian (Brager) Pope.  Scott attended elementary school at the one room Ray Hollow School. He attended freshman year of high school at Arena High School before graduating from River Valley High School in Spring Green, WI; class of 1965.  He went on to vocational school at MATC in Madison where he was on the Dean's List, graduating in 1967. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Thering on Jan. 12, 1967. Together they started their family while living in Madison where Scott worked for Accounting Equipment as a salesman and later for Investment Services as office manager.

Scott went on to obtain his real estate broker's license and worked for First Realty which eventually became First Weber. He later took his passion for real estate and homes and opened his own realty, The Realty Register. Having always enjoyed real estate, homes and the clients, he created and taught classes for aspiring realtors to pass and obtain their real estate license. Always busy, he owned and operated a cleaning business, Habitat Enterprises Inc., serving the greater Madison area.

While raising their family, he and Rosemary decided to make the move back to Arena. Scott was a man of faith and later became an ordained minister also teaching himself Hebrew and Greek so he could easily interpret and teach the gospel and bible readings to others. He served as a non-denominational pastor for parishes who needed an interim or fill in pastor, which worked out ideally at the Arena Congregational Church. He enjoyed this as he was able to be closer to home and the farm. Scott enjoyed the farm reliving his early years showing cows at 4H, at the Iowa County and WI State Fairs, trips to Canada with his dad to pick up Registered Holsteins for the farm. He enjoyed music, playing his guitars. But his greatest joy was reading, teaching and sharing his love of the bible and God's love. Scott was a past active member of the Abundant Life Christian Center in Dodgeville.

Scott is survived by his wife, Rosemary; daughter, Christine (Jeff) Nehls and her children, Cassandra (Jesse Peterson) and Johnathan Horstmeier; son, Jeremy (Jenna Miller) Pope; siblings, Sondra (Reed Van Gorden) Pope and Vince (Nancy) Pope. In-laws Jim (Linda) Thering, Jerry (Diane) Thering, Rob (Sue) Thering, Susan (Ray Dischler) Thering, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Pope.

Services for Scott will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Hooverson Funeral Home, Hwy 14 West, Mazomanie, WI. The visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in the Arena Cemetery. Following the committal, all are invited to join the family for a luncheon at Grandma Mary's Café, Arena.

The family would like to thank the Arena EMS and the UW ICU Medical staff for their care and support.

Scott's family requests memorials may be made in his name to the Arena EMS or the Arena Food Pantry.
