Grunenwald, Susan K.

Susan K. Grunenwald, age 79, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Upland Hills Health Hospital in Dodgeville. Susan was born in Cleveland, OH on January 23, 1945; the daughter of William and Georgian (Vaubel) Halverson. Susan married the love of her life, Le Roy Grunenwald, on December 20, 1963, in Mineral Point. They would have been married 61 years.

Susan and Le Roy made their home in the Livingston area on the 101 Ranch, where they raised their four children. Together they were avid dancers and enjoyed traveling. Susan especially enjoyed visiting the Promise Land Winery. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved entertaining friends and family with her many creations. Susan loved her title as mother, wife, and homemaker, but she also enjoyed her work outside of the home. Susan attended Southwest Tech’s meat cutting program where she eventually went from student to instructor. She also enjoyed her time working at Roundy’s and Speedy Dry Cleaners in Dodgeville where she honed her seamstress skills to a master level.  Her most favorite job was waitressing because she loved surrounding herself with people and they were also drawn to her vivacious, energetic, full of life personality. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, painting, and spending time in her flower gardens. Susan was proud of her Alaskan Native American heritage and loved to talk about her affiliations with the Aleut Tribe.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Le Roy; four children: Janice (Jeff) Baylor, Mark (Haiying) Grunenwald, Brenda Grunenwald, and Alan Grunenwald; five grandchildren: Margo Fritsch, Ryan (Deborah Leroux) Fritsch, Roxana Grunenwald, Brent Gertz, and Nathan Gertz; seven siblings: Dianna (Bob) Thompson, Barbara (Frank) Wahl, Noreen Clark, Linda (James) Retrum, Tina (Peter) Beeman, Billy Halverson, and Valerie (Donny) Burgus; as well as many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Terry and Dennis Halverson.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort. Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery in Dodgeville. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home. For online condolences, please visit: www.larsonfuneralhomes.com.
