Hebgen, Richard "Dick"

Richard "Dick" Hebgen, age 91 of Highland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024 with his loving wife Mary by his side.

Dick was born August 21, 1932 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin to Aloys and Alice Hebgen. Following his graduation from Highland High School in 1951, Dick enlisted in the Navy and attended basic training at the U.S. Naval Training Center - Great Lakes, Illinois. He went on to serve honorably for four years aboard the USS - Lloyd Thomas.

After completing his military service in 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary (Hach) Hebgen, on June 9, 1956. He went on to work as a carpenter for many years, then more recently at Lands' End where he retired at the age of 82. In 1959, Dick joined the Highland Fire Department, and later earned the honor of being the longest living member of the department. He went on to become one of the founding members of the Highland Rescue Squad in 1972. Dick was also a member of the Highland American Legion Post 9440, as well as the Highland VFW Post 422, and belonged to Ss. Anthony and Philip Parish where he served as a council member.

Dick was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, or as he called it a "Packer Backer". He and his fellow "Packer Backers" frequently took a bus to Green Bay to cheer on his favorite team. Dick especially loved to spend time with his family and was very proud of his three sons and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Aloys and Alice, his twin brothers Donald "Donnie" Hebgen and Ronald "Ronnie" Hebgen, granddaughter Chelsea Hebgen, as well as many brother and sister-in-laws.

Dick is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; three sons: Mark (Jackie Benish) Hebgen, Doug (Linda) Hebgen, and Tom (Lisa) Hebgen; five grandchildren: Matt Hebgen, Megan (Tony) Bunkleman, Shanaya Hebgen, Kate (Tyler) Davis, Jackson Hebgen; and two great grandchildren: Brooks Bunkleman and Elliott Bunkleman.
