Jerre D. Custer, age 76, of Linden, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville surrounded by his family.

Jerre was born November 27, 1946 in Yankton, South Dakota, a son of Dean and Erlene Custer. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from October 1964 until November 1967 on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hornet.

After his service, Jerre worked with his father and uncle in the boilermaker trade, welding tanks for 15 years. He then settled in Platteville and became a heavy equipment operator, working for Longsberg Trucking and then G.A. Watson Construction in Dodgeville.

Jerre was a proud 25-year member of the Operating Engineers Local 139. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Platteville Fire Department.

He was married to Andrea Custer and they had three children. He later married Debra Davey in 2016 and lived his remaining 7 years with his loving and caring wife.

Jerre enjoyed golfing, was an avid Packers and Badgers fan, he loved spending time with his great friend “Pete”, making Sunday morning pancakes for his family, and making and hiding Easter eggs. Jerre loved life.

Jerre is survived by his wife Debra; his children Teri Custer o f Platteville, Travis (Krissy) Custer of Cuba City and Traci (Jamy) Dorota of Platteville; his grandchildren Colton Vivian, Sierra Vivian, Remington Dorota and Jace Dorota; his siblings Pat (Doug) Schramm, Beverly Kettler, Perry (Kim) Custer and Kelly Custer; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Wayne Kettler.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville. A visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held in Linden Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Linden American Legion Post No. 493.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
