Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

It's a new year! I don't really know what that means other than I survived another year and made it into the new year! Hopefully I have a lot more New Years in front of me!

We had a partial "family" New Year's Eve gathering at Dodger Bowl for 10 of us. That meant Pat and I; Shelly, Danielle and Grant; Ryan, Lauri, Sean, McKenna and Addison were all together for nice meal and conversation before the bell tolled at midnight signifying 2023.

Sunday was our "Reilly" Christmas and we were in Waunakee at niece Kelly's home. Almost everybody was there: Pat and I; Darren, Michele, Gavin and Liam; Shelly, Danielle and Grant; Ryan, Lauri, Sean, McKenna and Addison; Kelly, Brett, Jade and Taylor (missing Quentin as he went to the Packers game); Amy (missing Nick), Emma, Reilly (and friend Presley). The main food was a taco bar, and there were plenty of snacks, desserts and other sweets. I came home very full and with a boatload of presents, many of them sweets and snacks (yum)!

Speaking of the Packers game, Quentin got to see quite the showing by the Packers! It all began with a 105-yard kickoff return by Keisean Nixon and propelled from there to a 41-3 lead before ending 41-17. If you would've told me five weeks ago that the Packers would have a shot at being in the playoffs, I would've told you that you were dreaming. Now, they need just a win next week against the Detroit Lions and it is reality!

Oh, and I was listening to a radio replay of Nixon's TD run. It said something like this - he's heading into the clear like Secretariat at the Belmont! That was a pretty good description as there was nobody near him!

Our last Saturday Morning Breakfast for 2022 took Bob, Dewey, Dave and I with a newcomer - Tom DeMuth - to 400 Springs at the House on the Rock Resort Motel and Golf Course near Spring Green. Terry wasn't feeling up to going and somehow Tom DeMuth got into the mix! Again no omelettes, but a lot of "Farmer's Breakfast" - eggs, etc, homemade French Toast. Sunday was their last day until the middle or March when the motel opens back up again. We had a nice conversation with Dawn until she got called back to the kitchen. Another Dawn seated us and Rita was our waitress. The food and atmosphere there is always great!

We are supposed to get a little more snow early this week. My count, as of Monday, January 2, is 22 snowfalls so far this winter. That puts us closer to the 35 predicted, but 13 more seems like never ending! I still remember a 14 incher in early April though!

Today (Thursday) is National Whipped Cream Day. Now, that doesn't mean the fake stuff - it means the real thing! I think I just may have a piece of pie with that really good suff on it! Or better yet, what you see above - raspberries covered with whipped cream!
