Pointers make it seven in a row

The Mineral Point girls basketball team pushed their winning streak to seven Saturday afternoon with a 70-47 victory over Belmont in non-conference play.
The Braves entered with a record of 15-4 and in first-place in the Six Rivers - West standings.
The Pointers also entered with a record 15-4 but were in second-place in the SWAL.
Mineral Point came out strong on both ends of the court, especially offensively.
Junior Belle Watters had a strong presence for Mineral Point early on, as she led with 13 points in the first half.
Senior Katelyn Cox also reached double figures in the first half, as she scored 10 points, including drilling a three-pointer.
Mineral Point sophomore Ella Kroll added seven points and shot five-for-six from the free throw line.
The Pointers sustained a 36-20 lead by the halftime break.
Belmont was limited offensively, as Rylee Rogers led with seven points in the first half, including a three-pointer.
The Braves managed to close the gap slightly in the second half, as they were outscored 34-27.
Cox led with 20 points and shot seven-for-11 from the free throw line.
Watters ended the night with 13 points.
Kroll and Wenger had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Kroll shot eight-for-10 and Wenger shot three-for-five from the charity stripe.
Junior Brea Goninen and sophomore Laci Lindsey both added five points for the Pointers.
As a team, Mineral Point went 22-for-33 from the free throw line.
Morgan Freeman led Belmont with 11 points Saturday and shot three-for-eight from the line.
Rogers added 10 points and went five-for-eight from the line.
Belmont shot 19-for-36 from the line collectively.
With the win, Mineral Point improved to 16-4 overall.
