Dodgers have a good day at the CLASH

Dodgeville's wrestlers can no doubt use last Saturday's matches with some of their top opponents of the season to get ready for the tourney trail ahead.
The Dodgers took on opponents at The Clash, a combined meeting with teams from the SWC and the SWAL. The tournament is viewed by wrestlers and coaches as one of the best around. Last Saturday's gathering of mega talent took place at Richland Center.
Here is what Dodgeville coach Ryan Lord said about the day.
"The Clash again proved to be an extremely tough tournament. I'm confident there will be wrestlers from this tournament who did not win titles, who will go on to win state titles in three weeks.
"The Dodgeville wrestling team placed 5th (13 teams) as a team with six of 14 weight classes represented. Senior Alex Pipkorn (220) missed the tournament due to illness and we had a wrestler who did not make weight. We also sent seven wrestlers to the JV portion of the Clash.
"Individually the Dodgers were led by Clash Champions Haakon Peterson (106) and Charlie Meudt (113). Mason Winch (170) placed second, Nathan Johnson (126) placed third, Reid Spurley (120) placed fourth and Izaak Duran (195) placed seventh. Haakon and Charlie each proved extremely dominant in their respective weight classes. Haakon won each of his first two matches by tech fall before pinning a very good wrestler in Fennimore's Cade Birchman in the finals. Charlie secured two pins before defeating tough Riverdale wrestler, Brody Miess, by a score of 20-6.
"Mason had a great tournament and was wrestling a great finals match before attempting a throw and being caught. I really feel like Mason is starting to hit his stride. If Mason can avoid mistakes and have confidence in how good he is, I have no doubts he can be on the podium at the Kohl Center. Nathan is in a similar boat. He has wrestled great at times this year, but I think his best wrestling this season is yet to come. He can beat anyone on the road to the Kohl Center if he continues to build his confidence.
"Reid had byes until the semifinal match where he faced off against Mineral Point's Roen Carey. Roen is a very talented and tough wrestler. It was a tight match with a lot of scrambles. Reid attempted a throw and Roen was able to counter for a five point move. Coming back from a five point move against a highly regarded opponent is tough and Reid ultimately lost by a score of 10-7. I know it was a tough loss for Reid, but I believe Reid will bounce back just fine. Reid was not able to wrestle in the third place match due to an injured hand. Fortunately, he did not suffer a fracture and he will be able to wrestle at Regionals.
"Sophomore Izaak Duran is basically in his first year of wrestling. I'm extremely impressed with the progress he has made this year and I think he has a ton of potential. Izaak had a couple of close matches and finished in seventh place."
The Dodgers were also well represented in the JV Clash. John Qualley continued his hot streak by winning the 170 bracket in the JV division. Blaek Foust also had a good day finishing second at 106. Aiden Duran (160) also had a great day with a second place finish. Leo Hanson, Braydenn Husom and Justin Emrick each finished in third place to round out the Dodger placewinners.
The Dodgers will return to Richland Center next Saturday for the WIAA Regional Tournament.
