Physical abuse of child investigation on going at Iowa-Grant

Iowa-Grant District Administrator Michael Shimshak and Iowa County Sheriff Michael Peterson have issued a joint statement about an ongoing investigation at the I-G EMS/Middle School.

The alleged incident took place November 21 when the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Iowa-Grant School District in reference to an incident that occurred at the Iowa-Grant Elementary/Middle School.  

The incident took place that day and involved a staff member and students. Following the investigation, charges were referred to and are pending with the Iowa County District Attorney’s Office on Kirby Grutz, age 30 of Mineral Point for one count of Physical Abuse of Child-Recklessly Cause Bodily Harm.

Grutz is a physical education teacher at the school. He is still employed by the district but no information was provided about his status.

The Iowa-Grant School District is conducting its own internal investigation and cannot offer any further information. 

No other information will be released about this case from the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office or Iowa-Grant School District.
