Crash causes death of Blanchardville man Tuesday


A 54 year old Blanchardville man is facing a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle following a fatal accident near Blanchardville Tuesday morning.

Thomas Naughtin, Blanchardville, was driving a Ford 150 when he apparently crossed the center line and struck a Toyota Sienna driven by Gary Gruenenfelder, 69, also of Blanchardville.  Gruenenfelder was taken to the Monroe Hospital by Blanchardville EMS where he died.

Naughtin was taken to UW Madison Hospital by Mineral Point EMS where he is listed in stable condition.

Naughtin, who has five previous OWI convictions,  is facing the vehicular homicide charge along with inattentive driving and operating left of center causing death.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles in the 11:27 a.m. accident.

The location on the report shows the crash happened on STH 78 and CTH F in the Town of Moscow.

Responding to the scene were Wisconsin State Patrol, Iowa County Sheriff, Hollandale Fire, Blanchardville Fire and EMS, Iowa County Highway Department, Mineral Point EMS and the Iowa County DA.
