Dodgers earn wins over East Dubuque and Mount Horeb


The Dodgeville baseball team was able to dig deep into their pitching staff and win their own invitational Saturday.
It wasn't an easy day at the ball park. East Dubuque, IL stayed on Dodgeville's heels until the hosts pulled away for a 5-3 win in the opener.
Joey Honerbaum worked four innings to earn the win and Aiden Murphy got the save with three shutout frames. The only glitch in Honerbaum's outing was a two run home run he surrendered that came in the second inning.
The Dodgers got a run in the second when Ben Haakenson was hit by a pitch and Jamo Allen came in to run. Allen scored on a fielders choice by Tarron Bockhop
The Dodgers had three big hits in the third for a trio of runs. Dalen Rickard led off with a triple, Chase Forsyth walked and Cooper Fockler pulled off a safety squeeze. Forsyth scored on a passed ball. Jayden Olson doubled and scored on a double by Haakenson.
The Dodgers added an insurance run in the fourth. Rickard walked and eventually scored on a double by Forsyth.
Olson led the offense with two doubles in three trips.  Haakenson and Forsyth also had doubles and Rickard was 2x4 with a triple.
Honerbaum allowed four hits and the three EDBQ runs. He struck out six and walked one.
Murphy fanned four, walked one and gave up a hit while holding EDBQ scoreless.
In game two that put the Dodgers against Mount Horeb the Vikings were leading 7-3 after three frames.
After a quick team meeting the Dodgers vowed not to lose and the message was delivered.
What followed was a six run fifth, a single run sixth and a seven run seventh for a 19-9 win.
Olson started and after 1 2/3 gave way to Bockhop who turned in four strong innings and got the win. Reddell finished with an impressive 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball.
Olson struck out one, Bockhop three and Reddell one. Olson walked two, Bockhop three and Reddell one. Olson gave up five hits, Bockhop three and Reddell none.
Bockhop was 3x5 and Allen 2x4 to lead the sticks. Fockler had a double as did Allen. Murphy, Rickard and Reddell all had one hit.
The wins moved the Dodgers to 6-0 on the early season.
