Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

There will be a lot of "Trick or Treating" going on throughout the area on Monday, October 31, but there will be a lot of Halloween things going on over the weekend too. Dodgeville will have their "Trunk or Treat", sponsored by the chamber of commerce, from 1-3 p.m. in the parking lot outside of the courthouse and Chronicle office on Saturday. There will be goodies and games for the youngsters with a lot of fantastic costumes displayed. Mineral Point has the Kiwanis/Key Club sponsored Halloween Costume Contest Saturday with games by the Key Club starting at 10 a.m. sharp at Orchard Lawn. Ridgeway has a lot of Halloween activities going on in the Community Building starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 30. There will be storytime, hallway trick or treat, scavenger hunt, costume contest and a movie. It all sounds like fun and maybe a little scary too!

Bob, Terry, Dewey and I took a little trip on Friday morning to the "Toy Train Barn" that is located just southeast of Argyle. What Buck and his wife Jan have done at this place is unbelievable! Buck is a retired railroad man and has built a creation for all ages out of things that have been discarded, rebuilts and scraps. Just to listen to his stories is worth the trip, but then to witness his creations - all mostly motorized - is worth another modest admission price, that they charge just to keep people coming back - some do very often too!

We made a stop at the Pecatonica Valley Leader Office to see Kayla (editor) and then went to the Corner Pub across the street to have lunch!

The next day, Bob, Terry, Dewey, Dave and I met at the General Store in Spring Green, a stop we hadn't made in a while. We were remembered by the owner and she made a special stop at our table to greet us - that was nice. Four of us had the pecan/peach pancakes with pure maple syrup - yummy! Bob was the only one to differentiate as he had cinnamon French toast! Just after we were seated, a gentleman came in and I heard him say that Dodgeville was here! I had my back to him and couldn't see him until he came over to the table. It was Bob Greenwood, former editor of the Home News newspaper in Spring Green. We had run into him before at the Farm Market in Spring Green when (retired) he was providing singing entertainment.

Friday night's "Wine Walk" throughout 12 stops in downtown Dodgeville was a huge success! The streets and stops were filled with people on the walk. I haven't "Wined" for over 46 years, so I just walked. I did talk to a bunch of people and ran into a lot I hadn't seen in quite a while. The temperature let me be in short sleeves (70 degrees) too!

A big congratulations to the Dodgeville-Mineral Point Girls Cross Country Team as they won the Sectional Championship and will be competing in Division 2 at the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids. The Iowa-Grant boys won their Division 3 championship and will be competing for a state crown Saturday too! Dodge-Point's Layne Aurit will be running in D2 as an individual as will I-G's Hope Connolly in D3. Good luck to all!

Congratulations to volleyball Regional Champions Mineral Point, Highland and Barneveld! Highland and Barneveld will play the first round of Sectionals, so unfortunately one will be eliminated!
