Along The Ad Routes

I was back for Saturday morning breakfast and even drove - something the guys are kind of hesitant about! We went to a familiar place in Hollandale, Stroz's Inn. Owner Jen wasn't around, but we had a nice talk with Kevin Einerson when he stopped by for a break from his cooking. I asked how they handled the big group from Iowa-Grant on prom night last week. He said it went well with about 60 kids. They pretty much pre-ordered and had their names attached to the order so when things were ready they just called out a name and took the food to them. They were alerted on Thursday about them coming there and had things in good shape for them. He said there were a lot of cheeseburgers and fries and prime rib!

Our group Saturday was Bob, Terry, Dewey and myself with special guest Dennis Kopps. Dave Stone couldn't make it because a son came ot visit. We always have great omelettes there and don't go away hungry. That's what Bob, Terry and I ate. Dewey had eggs and bacon. Dennis chowed down on three pancakes and sausage patties! Coming in to eat while we were there were the Christiansons from Dodgeville and Stan McGraw, Dodgeville graduate. We had Amber Seffrood (South Wayne area) as our waitstaff. That was the first time we had seen her, so of course had to grill her some!

After the four record-setting temperature days last week (hitting 90s) it is more like late spring now. Sunday was "Love Dodgeville" day with clean-up going on throughout the community. The temperature was around 70, just perfect - and not too windy!

Cousin Jeanette from Atlanta surprised me the other day saying she and husband Jack were coming to Dodgeville July 20 and staying at an Airbnb in town. I didn't even know we had any in Dodgeville proper. It's Jack's class reunion in Darlington - held over from last year due to COVID. We (and they) have relatives in the area from Platteville to Darlington to Madison to Richland Center to the Lancaster area.

Things are falling in place for a lot of summer activities. The Iowa County Dairy Breakfast is set for Saturday, June 4 at the Kyle Levetzow farm just east of Dodgeville. The first Dodgeville Lions Club Flea Market & Antique Show will be Sunday, June 12 at Harris Park. Iowa County Farmers Appreciation Day will be Sunday, July 10 with some new activities planned. Sip N Savor will be the Saturday night before at Harris Park with fireworks that night there too. That Sunday starts the two-week "Town Square' in downtown Dodgeville on Merrimac Street between Bob's Bitchin' BBQ and the Red Room Bar & Grill. DodgeFest is back again this year with hopefully cooler weather than last year. It's earlier in August this year - Saturday, August 6.

I know there are a lot more activities planned in the area. There's always a lot to do especially over the summer!

Next Saturday when we go to breakfast we will have to plan something special because it's "National Waiters & Waitress Day"! Maybe we can talk our waitress into sitting down and eating with us!!!

Today (Thursday, May 19) however is "World Plant a Vegetable Garden Day". I'm sorry, but that's one I'm not going to observe. It sounds like work. When I was on the farm, however, my mother and I used to do that every year - but I was maybe 60-70 years younger then! I loved pulling up fresh veggies, scraping off the dirt and eating them right then! (See above photo)
