Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Saturday morning breakfast took Bob, Terry, Dewey, Dave and me to a place we hadn't been for at least three years (Dave never). We all five squeezed into one vehicle and went west to Lancaster to Karla's Kitchen. The first few times we had gone there it was named Dewey's. Karla took over and we had been there at least twice before. The reason it had to be at least three years ago is because there was a bakery attached to the restaurant and the waitress told me it closed three years ago. That part of the building is now a meat market. After eating we ventured into the other part and checked it out, buying a couple of things.

After leaving downtown, Bob wanted to take us out to Vesperman Farms to show us where it was located. We headed southeast a few miles and there it was. They do weddings and parties in their barn. They do a corn maze in the fall. They make their own ice cream and have an ice cream food truck they take places. In fact, they just signed up to be a food vendor for the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships at Harris Park in Dodgeville on April 23.

We usually take County A through Rewey and Arthur as our route to get to Lancaster and we did again this time. There's very nice scenery and buildings to see on that route. It's great in the winter with all the snow cover, but even better in the summer with greenery!

In case you missed knowing about it or celebrating it, today (March 3) is "I Want You to be Happy Day". It is an unselfish day. It's a thought that we wish upon others that we care for or love. You are supposed to celebrate today by doing more than wishing someone is happy. Do something to make others happy. It can start with an Ecard that will put a smile on someone's face. Other ideas include a phone call, making positive compliments, or cooking a special meal. Be creative. There are endless ways to make others happy!

The Winter sports playoff and tournaments are upon us. Dodgeville crowned two State Wrestling Championship individuals in Charlie Meudt and Reid Spurley over the weekend. The Dodgeville-Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant Gymnastics team earned a trip to the State Gymnastics Championships in Wisconsin Rapids Friday with a runner-up placing at their own Sectional last Saturday. Both the Mineral Point and Highland Girls Basketball Teams won their Regional Championships and will be moving on to Sectional play, two games from state. Congratulations and Good Luck to all!

Boys basketball playoffs started Tuesday night with both Dodgeville and Mineral Point having a bye until this Friday night. Good Luck to all these teams too!

The weather is pointing towards an early spring just like Jimmy the Groundhog predicted. But remember March came in like a lamb, so all signs point to it going out like a LION!
