Along The Ad Routes

I was at breakfast Friday morning at the Red Room in Dodgeville when it became almost overrun with Mineral Pointers. I knew almost every one of them. They were all heading to play in the Poad/Gorgen Memorial Golf Tournament. It started 29 years ago as the Poad Memorial Golf Tournament and has grown every year with a lot of fun and stories!

Saturday Bob, Terry and I headed to Grandma Mary's in Arena for breakfast to meet Dave Stone, who has just a short trip from the east to get there. Dewey was at an all-school class reunion in Indiana. We never come away hungry after eating at Grandma Mary's. Bob and I both had the "Works" omelette with hashbrowns and cheese and toast. Bob even had a cookie afterwards. I was so busy eating I didn't even notice what Terry had, but Dave had his usual huge helping of oatmeal and then he topped it off with a cookie! There were very few people there when we arrived (not like it has been before - packed), but it was pretty filled up by the time we were leaving! Dave got to drive Terry's '68 Camaro the other day so he reciprocated to Terry by letting him drive his Porsche Saturday!

Wow, what a season for the Barneveld Softball Team! They fell just one game short of winning the Division 5 State Championship, losing to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 3-1 Saturday morning. Congratulations to the team and coaches who made the record books for being the first Barneveld softball team to make an appearance at state! It's something these girls, coaches, family and fans will never forget!

Things are pretty much set for Farmers Appreciation Day (weekend) here in Dodgeville on July 10. There will be music besides food and a lot of activities in the parking lot behind the courthouse following the 11 a.m. parade through the downtown. Also that morning will be a "run" that is sponsored by the Dodge-Point Running Club. More on that later. Saturday will be the "Sip & Savor" by Upland Hills Health inside Ley Pavilion at Harris Park from 5 p.m. until it's time for the annual fireworks display at dusk.

That same day (June 10) is the start of the Dodgeville Town Square between Bob's BBQ and the Red Room on Merrimac Street. It goes until July 24, so it runs for two weeks!

Sunday was the first of two Dodgeville Lions Club Flea Market & Antique Shows of the summer. The second one is August 28. There were a good amount of people who came out for it Sunday with over 40 vendors having stuff on display. It is a good money maker for the club with all the money going back into community projects! I ran into some people I hadn't seen in quite a while and that's always a good thing!

Sunday is Father's Day, a time to honor that fellow who probably taught you a lot of things in life especially your favorite sport, how to milk a cow, show an animal at the fair, fix a light socket, drive a car - the list goes on!
