Along The Ad Routes

The Wisconsin weather is getting a little bit tiresome with the wind and cold supposed to be around until the middle of the week (see above photo showing some of its strength). Then it is supposed to hit around 60 degrees on Thursday and Friday with temperatures going to hit around 70 on Saturday - Grilled Cheese Championship day! That will really be welcomed since the last one held (2019) we had around 6 inches of snow that morning. That really kept the crowd of people from showing up. We have had a lot of inquiries from all over about this year's event, so hopefully there will be a big crowd. Entries are not bad from the chefs and this year there is a challenge among Fire/EMS teams that will take place. And you don't want to miss Pam Jahnke (the Fabulous Farm Babe) as the Master of Ceremonies among the competitors. She will be a hit herself! She is worth coming to see! See you at Harris Park from 11-4 Saturday!

I had a chance to attend the Mineral Point Kiwanis & Key Club Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday morning at Mineral Point Health Services. It was fun renewing some old acquaintances and seeing a lot of youngsters scrambling to collect eggs. That event brought a lot of smiling faces to the youngsters with a lot of proud parents getting in the act too!

Having to be in Mineral Point at mid-morning, Bob, Terry and I decided to stay in town to have Saturday morning breakfast. We hadn't been to Jimmy's in awhile, so that was our destination (former Hardee's). As we were finishing in came Dave Price from the Clyde area. We all knew him, in fact he graduated with my brother Pat in 1963. We did some reminiscing and also some catch-up with him. That was a lot of fun!

Last Thursday, almost every sporting event around the area was cancelled due to cold, but mostly the winds. I would swear that the wind hit 60 MPH! Twice in the morning I had to go outside of the Chronicle office to pick up garbage from our non-recycle bin as it wouldn't stay upright and things were blowing across the parking lot. Another recycle bin blew from our back door and was stopped only by the courthouse building! I went outside with my briefcase and as I was getting into my vehicle, papers started blowing. I chased them down the street and retrieved some as far away as in front of Wells Fargo Bank and even a little further north! I was very happy when the sporting events went away that day. I couldn't fathom being out in any of those elements!

Our Easter Dinner (brunch) took us not too far away as we went to Cafe by Country Kitchen at the north end of Dodgeville. There were 10 of us at the get-together - Ryan and family plus Shelly and family, Pat and myself. Danielle took photos of each one of us individually, probably to post on her wall and throw darts at! It was a good gathering and a good brunch!

I'm usually at 10:00 Mass guy, but since our reservations were for 9:30 a.m. I made it to the 8:00 service. That gave me a chance to see some people I usually don't get to see and wish many of them a Happy Easter!

Another Easter thing. I stopped at the Chronicle office to do a few things and I heard two fire calls due to grass fires - one in Blanchardville, the other in Avoca. It's that time of year!

Winter hadn't left this area as of Monday as everyone woke up to snow on the ground. That was just to show as Mother Nature has a mind of her own!
